Convention Musings, UPDATED

I'm... getting older, now, so I guess I'm starting to think about "Bucket Lists". Not that I've ever had a Bucket List or anything, and I've done plenty of pretty cool things in my life to not really have a need of a Bucket List. But one thing I'd never done in my Entire Life was attend a fan convention. Sure, I've attended weekend seminars for shit, and work-related conventions, like that Admin Con back in '01, right after 9/11 happened and my life was falling apart anyway, and I was praying on the flight from Charlotte to San Francisco for a terrorist takeover (no, really, I really was praying to die in a plane crash so I wouldn't have to face my failing marriage)... or ShowBiz Expos from time to time, here in LaLa Land, which have moved my showbiz career forward, um, an inch?

But a FAN Convention. Never. I'm a fan of Star Trek (TNG, mostly), and the BSG reboot, and the JJ Abrams Trek reboot, and the Doctor Who reboot (and Torchwood), and the DC and Marvel universe superhero movies, and Firefly, and Buffy, and general fantasy and comics genres. I'd just never bothered to attend a Con. Probably primarily because they can be costly, and possibly also because I was intimidated by the idea of cosplay. Sure, I like to wear costumes. I don't (necessarily) want to build said costumes, or walk around a convention hall in something that isn't comfy enough to wear all day at home (i.e. heels, a corset, or wigs/heavy makeup).

So, knowing this about me, when Stephen got wind that LA was hosting #StanLeeComiCon17 at the convention center today, he ran "the idea" by me, and I agreed that we should spend the money, and book ourselves off work. That is precisely what we did.

Today, I attended my first Con. It was lovely. It was pleasant. It was fun. I was not intimidated by the crowds (the LA Convention Center is NOT the San Diego venue by a long shot). I did not feel "less than" for not cosplaying (I wore my dangling skeleton earrings because Halloween is almost upon us; that is "all"). I did not feel obligated to purchase anything. We took the subway to the train to a block or two away, and walked in with our e-tickets in Stephen's phone. I took photos. Here ya go:

Too busy to blog is a good thing, right?

I really wanna get around to reviewing some shtuff for y'all, before I forget what I've seen and how I feel about it. But first, I just want you kids to know I've been keeping busy!

Three Good Things:

  • Three-day work weekends, including my 60-day review. Long story, short is I still have a job, and I still have room to grow in that job and there are still no expectations of "upward movement" being placed on me by anyone.
  • Two days on set last week, and as of today, three days on set this week. #IAmAMoneyMagnet #ThankYouThankYouThankYou
  • Screenings and Workshops and Shopping, Oh My. Just trying to make sure we have sufficient foodstuffs in the house to take with us to the jobs that require us to bring our own lunches, and stay on top of seeing things I can review for you, and volunteering, and working on improving my VO career.
So, yeah, reading your blogs ==>
. . . . . and working long days on set and short days at the pet supply store
. . . . . . . . . . and keeping up with your comments ||
                                                                               \/

I've just not had time to blog further! What a #Blessing! What a #Curse!

I'll take it. And if you'd like it, too, then I'd be happy to share my Blessing/Curse. Peace, Out.

Welcome Back, (me)!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I know. I'm certainly not a blogger lately. And not really because I haven't had stuff to say. Just laziness, I guess. Or busy-ness. Or lazy business. #HashtagWTF?

So let's go back a teensy bit. Upon our return from Idaho, I mentioned I was applying at the pet supply retail chain. You've been sitting on pins and needles, haven't you? #DidSheGetTheJob or #IsSheNowJustTooFamousToBlogAnymore? Right?

I got the job!

I work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I mostly work eight-hour shifts, which is not normal for part-timers, at least at this particular company. I am great on the register, I am great with cat people, I am pretty good with dog people, and I'm really proud of the fact that, on a case-by-case basis, I seem to no longer fear dogs.

Wait, what? You were afraid of dogs up until the point you started working in pet supply retail?

Yes, kids, I have had a lifelong FEAR of dogs, in general. Growing up, at some point, Inner Hippie adopted a smallish (catlike) dog named Muffin. I wasn't afraid of Muffin, per se. But we had something of an understanding. We were not each other's Chosen One.

what a beauty, eh?
I've always been a Cat Person. When my roommate moved back to Minnesota without rehoming her cat, Miles, I kept him. We got along okay, but again, we were not each other's Chosen One. So when Cocoa and Smokey barged into my life, I found Miles another human to Choose. He DID, and now all parties are living better lives for it.

Chosen Ones

But I digress. I was always a Cat Person with a fear of DOGS. I got hired for my part-time pet supply gig, and I interact with Just About Every dog that comes into the store. And I love them all, even the ones that really couldn't care less about me. I do not love all of their people. Some people, even pet people, really suck.

Ennyhoo. I've been working weekends, and I'm approaching my 60-day review. WOW. And I've also booked a day or two of on-set work each week, except for the occasional week with zero days, in that time, and I've done some volunteering and been to a workshop or screening or two.

So hopefully, soonish, I'll review some things I've seen in the past coupla, and I'll get caught up on the blogs I read, and I'll stay caught up on blogging, too.

Didja miss me? What have YOU been up to? *If your blog is listed HERE>>>
then you don't gotta tell me \/ HERE \/ (so tell me that you missed me, instead) #wink*
